Days in and Around the Clinic

Dr. Porco who was the dentist volunteering before me had emailed me that these guys needed a volleyball.  The one they had was marginal at best.  We brought one with us from California.  These guys were so happy to have a good volleyball.

These school girls thought Jen's skin was so soft.  They kept feeling her face.

The family with the group of school kids who walked to the clinic.  We had a few show up the first day and we gave them toothbrushes and played football with them.  Word spread fast back at the school and today we had a whole bunch of kids to check out in the clinic.

This Maasai guy is our day guard.  He watches over the clinic.  At night we have a different guard who walks with us anywhere we go.  We haven't figured out if it is to keep us safe from animals or people.  Everyone here is so nice I have to think it is to keep us safe from the animals.

A tradition of the volunteer dentists to find a skull in the Maasai Mara and carve their name into it.  This is one a friend of mine from high school did when he volunteered here last year.

I mostly work on the Maasai people from the villages but occasionally some rangers from the game preserve will come in as well.

These girls seem to show up everyday with more and more friends.  I think word spreads quickly at the school that we are handing out toothbrushes and airplanes.

Enjoying their toothbrushes, which apparently is not something they normally have out here.

We brought some planes from our toy box at our office back home.  These kids were totally in hog heaven.  Thanks Twain Harte Family Dental Care for the gliders.
